In chatting with Pat, we got to see for ourselves the pride he has for his business, his employees, and his customers. Read on to learn more about how Pat built his company from the ground up and how he leveraged Dispatch to help it thrive.
Tell us about Total Home Remodeling. What is it that your company does?
We do interior and exterior residential remodeling. Kitchens, baths, and general interior renovations. On the exterior side, we do windows and siding.
How did Total Home Remodeling get started and when?
I started the company about 20 years ago.
Who does your staff consist of?
Our staff is made up of two field carpenters, one sales rep, three office admins, and two project managers out of Lenexa, KS, in Johnson County.
What is the culture of Total Home Remodeling like?
It’s hard to put an easy statement to that. We put in 8-10 hours a day together. You’ve got to like who you work with, so I guess you’d say we’re like a family. The space is a lot of fun too. Kind of an industrial vibe.
What makes Total Home Remodeling unique, especially for your area?
I think it would be a lie to say that I do anything different from my competitors. I think anyone who owns or works for a business in this space knows what it takes to be successful. I guess I might say that “We care... a lot”! It’s my business. Of course, I care about my staff and our customers. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing this.
What is the long-term goal for Total Home Remodeling?
Create a business that employs really quality and talented people. A group of leaders who can manage themselves and do the right thing when the right thing needs to be done.
How did you get started at Total Home Remodeling?
I used to flip houses. I did a lot of inner-city flips. About 75 in a year. Then I bought a gutter company. I didn’t wake up one day and say I wanted to be a remodeler. It was a natural progression to where the business is at today.
15 years ago it was nothing but gutters and then 10 years it was just windows. It’s about doing the right thing at the right time and treating people the right way. Not ripping people off, doing great work and it all snowballs from there.
How did you hear about Dispatch?
Very randomly, truth be told! I got an email, that I usually delete right away, but I decided to reply... and I never reply! Patrick came out and it was an awesome fit. The only downside is it’s made some of my guys a little lazy (kidding kidding)! We just call Dispatch now. They show up on time, you know when it’s going to be there. I have nothing but good things to say. Timing is everything.
What was your process for sending and receiving inventory prior to Dispatch?
There was no process. Just toss someone in the car to go get it when you need it! If anyone had free time on their hands, we would send them to pick stuff up. It wasn’t efficient at all.
Any special instance where Dispatch came through in a pinch or went above and beyond what you expected?
Not even one instance. It’s been every single time that they have been on time and the drivers have been pleasant. The biggest feat in and of itself is there have not been any issues.
